Voice memos capture audio with automatic on-device transcription, so everything you say is searchable as text.

Recording

  1. Tap + and choose Voice Memo, or use the Start Voice Memo quick action in the command palette on macOS.
  2. Tap the record button and speak.
  3. Tap stop when finished.

Audio is saved locally and syncs through your iCloud account like the rest of your journal.

Transcription

Transcription happens automatically after recording. Both the audio and the transcribed text are attached to the entry, and the transcription is indexed by search — so searching for a phrase you spoke will surface the memo.

Playback

Open a voice memo to play it back. The transcript appears below the player.
